When the Ethiopian jazz legend Mulatu Astatke stopped in Nairobi for a few days in January, he spent time at the Ketebul Studios working with a young Kenyan guitarist.The 67-year-old Mulatu has been celebrated the world over as the father of Ethio-jazz, a fusion of jazz and funk with traditional Ethiopian folk melodies. In recent years, he has been traveling the world working with contemporary and traditional musicians.It was, therefore, a perfect meeting between him and Nairobi jazz guitarist Eddie Grey, who at the time was working on the last song for his second album.
